Gratitude is a powerful help. The Christ, Truth, is always on the threshold of thought, waiting to be welcomed in. A mental state of grateful recognition of God's ever-present love and goodness will open the door to the light, dispelling mortal mind's shadowy images.

One morning I awoke with a bad cold. Throughout the day I endeavored to affirm my present perfection and freedom as God's spiritual reflection, safe from any suggestion of contagion or congestion. But toward evening the condition worsened.

At that point, the telephone rang. It was a relative from a distant city, a comparative newcomer to the family. After our conversation, I recalled the love this newcomer had consistently expressed to another relative. Gratitude swept over me as I recognized this as evidence of God's all-encompassing care for his creation. With the gratitude came a sudden influx of light. The heaviness began to fade away, and I knew I was healed. The next morning when I woke, the cold had disappeared.

The consciousness of Christ Jesus was a clear transparency for the light of Truth. These words of his are as pertinent now as they were centuries ago: "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." (John 8:12) This light of the Christ is ever present. It is here and everywhere. Turn to it, refuse to look away from it. And be healed! Marilyn R.

Several years ago I was told by an eye specialist that it was necessary to have an operation. I immediately called a Christian Science Practitioner who kindly said he would see the unreality of this “so-called” condition. After a short time I was able to see a little better. I spoke with the practitioner each day, and as the weeks went by my vision continued to improve. After several months I was completely healed. When I went back to visit the eye specialist I was told that the eye was perfect. I realize I had to get rid of my fear first for the healing to take place. I am grateful for Christian Science Practitioners who help us to see the nothingness of matter. Helen N.

We were vacationing in Bimini with family, all living aboard our boat. One of the first things we did was to take our tender and go snorkeling. While I was trying to get out of the water, another boat came close by and set up a big wake that caused the bottom of our outboard motor to come down hard on the top of my foot pinning it between the motor and the coral I was standing on. When able to release my foot and get into the boat, I saw there were several puncture wounds on the top of my foot and the little toe was pointed out to the side. I wrapped it in a towel and we headed to the big boat. The 10 minute ride gave me some time for prayer. I knew the most important thing was to not be afraid; I felt secure in my understanding of God’s ever-presence with me; that it would be equal to meet this emergency. Everyone was helpful and made me comfortable; I washed the wounds, put the little toe back in place and taped up the foot. There was no further pain and no swelling. For the remaining time in Bimini I was able to be quiet while the family went off to play. I read lots of verses in the Bible, and many statements of truth from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. They supported my desire to be healed and able to walk again.

A verse from Proverbs: “Trust in the Lord with all thy heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding, In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”, was helpful. And in her chapter on Christian Science Practice, Mrs. Eddy says, “The Christian Scientist, understanding scientifically that all is Mind, commences with mental causation, the truth of being, to destroy the error. This corrective is an alterative, reaching to every part of the human system. According to Scripture, it searches ‘the joints and marrow,’ and it restores the harmony of man”. To me, the error to be destroyed was that I had ever been outside of God’s care and control where an injury could happen, since the truth is that God is the only cause, creator and governing Principle of the universe including me and everyone. I was having a wonderful adventure with these two books; they were so inspiring. A week later we were home, and two weeks later I was walking freely. When I went to have my teeth cleaned a couple months later, the dentist wanted to see if it could have been possible for me to have had this experience my husband had told him about; he x-rayed my toe and saw where the bone had broken in two places, and the marks from the puncture wounds. He was amazed at how perfectly my foot had healed. I am very happy for the knowledge of God’s loving care and healing presence in my life. Bobbie C.

Years agoI was called by friends in another state and asked to do prayerful work for their son, who had a bone condition in his legs. The mother was a medical nurse at the time. When the boy complained about pain in his legs she took him to the hospital and they x-rayed his legs and found that he had a deteriorating bone condition for which there was no medical treatment.

After I took up prayerful treatment for the boy, the pain subsided and after several weeks he was examined again by the hospital and there was no more evidence of the bone condition. This healing took place many years ago. The young man went on to be an excellent soccer player and the healing was permanent. Ray S.
