Historical Sketch

During the year 1910, pioneer Christian Scientists in Fort Lauderdale started the reading of the Lesson-Sermon in their homes, and others soon joined them. In 1913, a Christian Science Society was formed witht six charter members.

A church charter was granted on May 10, 1926 and the small church at 100 Southeast River Drive, built to seat about 100 people, was dedicated on May 6, 1928. During the year 1938, alterations and additions were made increasing the seat capacity to about 200. Since that time the growth of the church has been such that a larger edifice became a necessity.

Ground was broken for the present edifice on April 12, 1948 and the first service was held on Sunday, March 6, 1949.

In March, 1953, the church members authorized the building of a Sunday School auditorium. Ground was broken in September, 1953 and the first Sunday School exercises were held in the completed auditorium on February 14, 1954.

The church was dedicated on November 20, 1955.
